October 12 is celebrated as world arthritis day, a global awareness-raising day. This year the theme was ‘Don’t Delay connect Today’ devoted to raising awareness of the importance of early diagnosis in preventing further damage to those living with Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Disorders.
Nepal Rheumatology Association moves forward every day in ways to improve access to arthritis care and just like every event, on the day of ' World Arthritis Day' NRA had organized Arthritis exhibition along with nationwide arthritis awareness and free screening program in two places of capital i.e. Sundhara and at Jawalakhel shedding light on the disease and its preventive measures.
More than 150 rheumatic diseases are prevalent affecting approximately 2.35 million people in Nepal as said by General Secretary of NRA Dr. Dipesh Shakya. Dr. Abhilasha Shah one of the members of NRA encouraged people to come forward for treatment as "Every kind of rheumatic disease is controllable when treated before worsen, ” Similarly, Dr. Lucky Sharma said women are more prone to disease because of less access to health care services. Raising awareness can actually help people with arthritis said the doctor.
